The Help Portfolio sells prints by Margaret Calvert, Yinka Shonibare and Michael Craig-Martin to fundraise for Covid charities
Calvert also designed the Help logo and portfolio box, featuring 16 eclectic artworks that reflect our current time.
Sixteen leading designers and artists have donated signed, limited-edition prints to the Help Portfolio, a new initiative selling artworks to raise money for Covid charities. Gathering works by 16 creatives including Margaret Calvert, Jake & Dinos Chapman, Michael Craig-Martin and Yinka Shonibare, the Help Portfolio will donate all profits from the sale of the boxed collection to 16 different charities selected by the artists themselves. Calvert has also designed the Help logo, which appears on her print, and the portfolio box that contains all 16 prints, being sold for £7,500.
The other artists who have given prints to the collection are Idris Khan, Chris Levine, Sue Arrowsmith, Ian Davenport, Nicky Hirst, Paul McDevitt, Elizabeth Magill, Annie Morris, Paul Morrison, Remi Rough, Mathew Weir and Paul Winstanley.
Michael Craig-Martin has created a screenprint depicting gerbera flowers in his characteristically bold and iconic style. Yinka Shonibare’s print incorporates gold leaf, to illustrate a tulip underneath the words “Thank You”. Mathew Weir’s still life titled The Watching Hour uses glow-in-the-dark ink, as does Chris Levine’s portrait of the Dalai Lama, entitled Compassion. Sue Arrowsmith’s copper-leafed print uses green ink that changes in the light.
Charities being supported by the initiative include Shelter, the Trussell Trust, Paintings in Hospitals, Solace Women’s Aid, Whizz-Kidz, ASTI and Médecins Sans Frontières UK.
The portfolio box containing 16 prints can be purchased online from today via Jealous Gallery and Print Studio, which both worked with each artist to create their bespoke artwork.
