For your final creative boost of 2024, we’re wrapping up the year with a line-up of incredible speakers at December’s Nicer Tuesdays, featuring: Adam Rouhana, the photographer and activist capturing intimate portraits of Palestine; Studio Dumbar/DEPT®, the international branding agency putting meaningful identity systems into motion; and Jeremy Deller, the Turner-Prize winning artist known for using the power of art to transform the everyday. Adam Rouhana and Studio Dumbar/DEPT® will be giving talks about their practice, while Jeremy Deller will be sitting down for a Q&A with It’s Nice That’s associate editor Liz Gorny.
In between, you can shop for gifts at our creative art market hosted by Intoart. The London-based visual arts charity will have an array of creative wares on sale with proceeds contributing to their work towards equity, visibility and social justice in the art world, led by the creative ambition of learning disabled and autistic artists and designers.
The event will take place on 3 December at EartH, Hackney, with doors opening at 6pm. As this is an 18+ event, please bring ID with you to the venue. If you are in need of disability access, please make yourself known to a member of the EartH team on the night or email hello@nicertuesdays.com so we can arrange assistance. Read more about December’s speakers below.
Known across the creative world for everything from Stonehenge bouncy castles to Brexit posters and brass bands,Turner Prize-winning artist Jeremy Deller will be sitting down with our associate editor Liz Gorny this Nicer Tuesdays to discuss the experiences that have shaped his career so far, how he activates interactive artworks with strong social and political messages, and why he is so keen on involving other people in the creative process.
International branding agency Studio Dumbar/DEPT® has been instrumental in putting motion design on the map. Driven by a keen curiosity, the studio has set identities for the likes of Instagram and Google into motion, explored new possibilities in the field with creative coding and even created some tech tools of its own along the way. In 2019, the studio also launched what is now the world’s largest design and motion festival: DEMO. At Nicer Tuesdays, creative director Liza Enebeis will be diving into the importance of sound and motion design, the capacity we have as designers to impact public space, and how the studio initiated DEMO and where the festival is going next.
Following his debut solo show at Frieze this year, photographer and activist Adam Rouhana will be taking the Nicer Tuesdays audience through the journey of his ongoing series Before Freedom, shot over several years in his ancestral homeland and across Palestine. Acclaimed for his intimate portraits of Palestinian life, the photographer’s oeuvre has amassed a captivating archive of images deeply rooted in childhood memories, whilst working between Jerusalem and London. In his talk, he will be giving us an insight into his creative journey so far, exploring why he uses film photography as a medium to document his community and homeland, and how his evocative approach to photography is creating visual narratives that truly reflect the rich pluralism of Palestinian life.
