Quite unsurprisingly, taking one of top spots this year is designer Sun Young Oh’s cat flow charts. While we know we have an animal-loving readership, we think it might have actually been the designer’s process that really captured you all, with his visual investigation of words in a careful crossover between art and typography. Another project that had you fascinated by its mechanics was creative duo Rob and Robin’s football-inspired variable drawing tool, built to make interactive illustrations that change shape. Digging deeper into some other digital tricks creatives had up their sleeves this year, you were keen to find out just how Hoi Chan’s sea creatures looked so weightless and dreamy, and why Lauren Cory was combining retro pixels with traditional textile patterns.

Many of you pulled up a seat to read about Karin Meenen’s sketches of designer chairs; paused to take a peak at Jean Aubertin’s wistful still lifes, (detailing scenes as simple as the contents of his fridge); and a fair few of you found yourselves squinting at Giacomo Bagnara’s blurry everyday objects — all revealing a fascination for the mundane. Ryan Todd was one of the illustrators that turned the idea of everyday observations into something more this year with his 365 days of drawing, whilst comic artist Edie Medley took something as common (and painfully relatable) as a UTI to raise awareness over the daily dismissal of women’s health issues.
