Lucas Zanotto
Lucas Zanotto
The Helsinki-based designer, animator and director Lucas Zanotto never fails to put a smile on our faces with his charming kinetic characters. With a number of accolades under his belt, from an Apple Design Award to a Golden Lion in Cannes, Lucas will provide a much-anticipated insight into his interdisciplinary practice stretching across installation, commercial directing, digital loops and 3D animation. Known for his fun and playful approach, Lucas’ clients include Amazon, Wimbledon and Google, not to mention a host of personal projects. And to top it all off, he also has a company focusing on children’s content, Yatatoy.
Sophy Hollington: The New York Times Magazine, The Decameron Project
Sophy Hollington
Artist and illustrator Sophy Hollington has been commissioned by the likes of The New Yorker, Bloomberg Businessweek, WeTransfer, Wired, Penguin and The Wall Street Journal, to name just a few. Her work mostly takes the form of relief prints, a laborious process created using lino-cutting. Using this lengthy and historic process, Sophy was recently commissioned by The New York Times Magazine to create a cover inspired by a book of 100 stories processing the fear and grief caused by the Black Death in the 14th century. At this month’s Nicer Tuesday’s, the illustrator will delve further into this timely brief and how she approached the task.
Luis Alberto Rodriguez: People of the Mud
Luis Alberto Rodriguez
The Berlin-based, American-Dominican artist Luis Alberto Rodriguez has forged an impressive career to date using his background as a dancer to inform his movement-infused photography. His recent series People of the Mud shines a light on communities based in County Wexford, Ireland, and was made in collaboration with these communities too. At October’s Nicer Tuesdays Online, Luis will talk us through the powerful series, which explores the collision of tradition and modernity.
Tracy Ma: The New York Times Magazine
Tracy Ma
Currently the visual editor at The New York Times, Tracy’s impressive career to date spans five years as deputy creative director at Bloomberg Businessweek (where she oversaw over 200 issues) and teaching stints at New York’s Parsons. With a portfolio brimming with visual wit and experimental interactions, during this month’s Nicer Tuesdays Online, Tracy will share an insight into her creative process and how she and her team at The New York Times deliver razor-sharp visuals day after day, week after week.
