An exclusive first look inside the next issue of Hero
This week, genre-busting menswear mag Hero is gearing up to launch its new issue. We couldn’t wait, and since you probably can’t either, the team have kindly given us an exclusive glimpse into its Winter/Spring edition with an iconic shoot featuring Joe Dallesandro and Thiago Pethit shot by Brad Elterman. For the uninitiated: Brad is a legendary rock’n’roll photographer, who has shot everyone who was anyone during the 60s and 70s, from Kiss to The Ramones to Bowie to Joan Jett, Joe is maybe better known as “Little Joe”, a product of Andy Warhol’s factory turned actor and gay subculture sex symbol and Thiago is a Brazilian musician and actor.
James West, co-editor-in-chief of Hero told It’s Nice That: “Joe and Brad are both such legends in their own right. Joe is a very private person and so having him in chat with [musician] Thiago Pethit (the two were already friends) led to an amazingly insightful and inspirational conversation that is pretty honest and open as well. Brad Elterman, iconic in his own right, was such a great fit to document them at Joe’s home in LA. He’s shot pretty much all of rock’n’roll royalty and has this amazing way of capturing a moment. He also told us one of his fondest teen memories was when his mum dragged him to Andy Warhol’s gallery aged 15, he got to meet Warhol and so this project had a resonance for him – he said that shooting Joe was a really unique moment and the connection between the subjects was really something special.”
Elsewhere in the Winter/Spring issue there’s work by cult photographers Jamie Morgan and Ari Marcopolous and an interview with French designer Haider Ackermann. The magazine also features actor Asa Butterfield and a shoot with social media sensation Cameron Dallas.
