Photographer Wolfgang Tillmans has contributed a track to Frank Ocean’s new “visual album”, Endless. The techno-pop song Device Control appears in part as the introduction to the album and in full length at the end, bookending the 45-minute video on Apple Music.

The visual album was published on 19 August as a prelude to Ocean’s latest album Blond being released on 20 August, which features Tillmans’ photo of Frank for Fantastic Man in 2015 as its cover image.

“Three weeks ago I showed him a few songs,” the German artist explains on Instagram, “which I had written and produced for myself earlier in the year, and he replied ‘Device Control is brilliant. Love. Can I sample it for the intro of my album?’" It was to his “excited surprise”, he says, that Frank went on to use the song to such extent.

Tillmans created the vocals, lyrics and melody for the song, working with Tim Knapp, Kyle Combs and Rosie Slater on the production. It also features on Tillmans’ new Device Control EP.
