Vice to launch Viceland TV channel in the UK and Ireland, overseen by Spike Jonze
Media company Vice is to launch the UK and Ireland version of its TV channel, Viceland, on 19 September. The 24-hour channel first aired in the US earlier this year, with programming overseen by director Spike Jonze.
The channel’s first release of programmes aims to offer a contemporary take on youth culture, with features on music, food, drugs, identity, sex, fashion and sports. It will air original shows developed and produced entirely in-house by Vice’s creative team, with series including Hate for Beginners, with comedian Jamali Maddix investigating extremism; and Grace Neutral exploring global tattoo culture.
US shows will also air on Viceland, featuring the likes of Ellen Page, Action Bronson and Michael K Williams. The UK channel will launch with The Viceland Census a one-off film surveying young British people and giving them a platform to voice their views.
Creative director EMEA Alex Miller says the goal is to make Viceland “the most original and important TV channel for young people in the country”.
