Ten young illustrators have been enlisted to raise drink driving awareness for Think!
Those chosen for the poster-based commission include Joey Yu and Molly Fairhurst.
Illustration has been placed at the heart of the latest campaign by road safety charity Think!.
60 pieces of work have been commissioned for their Pint Block campaign, representing the 60 young drivers aged between 17-24 who are injured or killed each month.
The ten young illustrators chosen to create these posters are: Ceara Coleman, Joey Yu, Inga Ziemele, Alasdair Spencer, Joe Gamble, Ben Armson, Chester Holme, Molly Fairhurst, Gaurab Thakali, Tegan Price.
The project is centred around finding creative ways you can prevent friends from drink driving, adhering to the slogan: “A mate doesn’t let a mate drink drive.” The humorous posters use a playful and imaginative tone to think of alternative scenarios and methods that people can use to take their friend’s pints, which include moshing and distracting them with karate.
The poster imagery is specifically aimed at young males, and for good reason. Research shows that 64% of people consider it important to stop a friend from drink driving, a number that worryingly drops to just 45% in young men. This statistic is all the more concerning bearing in mind young men are far more likely to be involved in alcohol-related driving incidents.
The project has been created with longevity in mind too, and includes seasonal and cultural moments from various points in the year such as Christmas, Movember, Halloween and sporting events, all of which have been chosen with a male audience in mind.
Despite reductions in drink-driving in previous years, there are still 1600 alcohol-related deaths and serious injuries on the roads in Great Britain each year.
