New illustrations by Quentin Blake for J Sheekey's Atlantic Bar

Date

Quentin Blake creates a series of illustrations for restaurant J Sheekey.

Life Under the Atlantic imagines and depicts the staff and clientele J Sheekey has hosted during its 120-year history, from sommeliers serving up fine wines to the ladies who lunch with libations, all swimming among the fishes to evoke the Atlantic theme of its new bar.

“J Sheekey has long been a favourite restaurant of mine and to be able to use the characters I have met on my various trips to inspire this work has been a real joy”, says Quentin Blake.

The illustrations have been framed on the wall of the bar, and will feature as designs on the plates served in the bar.

Quentin Blake is of course most famous for his collaborations with legendary author Roald Dahl, as well as his illustrative work on the books of Dr. Seuss, Elizabeth Bown, David Walliams and the newly rediscovered Beatrix Potter work The Tale of Kitty-in-Boots due out in September. He was the inaugural Children’s Laureate from 1999 to 2001.
