Peter Lindbergh photographs female stars for the new Pirelli Calendar

Pirelli has unveiled its 2017 calendar, shot entirely in black and white by photographer Peter Lindbergh. The German photographer has called his calendar “emotional,” stating that he aimed to “ not shoot a calendar about perfect bodies but to capture the sensitivity and emotion, laying bare the souls of the women in the image, rendering more naked than a nude.”

The 44th edition of the calendar features portraits of Jessica Chastain, Penelope Cruz, Nicole Kidman, Rooney Mara, Helen Mirren, Julianne Moore, Lupita Nyong’o, Charlotte Rampling, Lea Seydoux, Uma Thurman, Alicia Vikander, Kate Winslet, Robin Wright, and Zhang Ziyi.

This is the third time that Peter has shot the calendar, having done so in 1996 and 2002. The 2017 edition, that contains more than 40 images, was shot between May and June this year in five locations: Berlin, Los Angeles, New York, London and Le Touquet in France.
