Dating app OkCupid rebrands with illustrated icons by Jay Daniel Wright
Dating app OkCupid has rebranded with a whole new set of icons by Berlin-based illustrator Jay Daniel Wright, as well as a new typeface, Grilli Type’s GT America and a “bolder, cleaner” graphic design.
Designed and commissioned in house by the app’s design team, the visual refresh maintains the existing logo but updates all icons across the app with Jay’s fun and characterful images. The replacements by Jay are more personable in content and bold in style, with black outlines and block colours.
Jay has previously illustrated for The New York Times, Die Zeit and Bloomberg Businessweek, and brings personality to the dating site. His characters for OkCupid include a cute, button-nosed star character, a facially expressive heart, and a phone painting a selfie self-portrait.
OkCupid’s CEO Elie Seidman explains: “The new design celebrates the individuality, strength and eclecticism of our large and vibrant community. Perhaps most important: The new design is fun… 2017 is a time where we all need some fun to leaven the mood.”
