Mount Kimbie’s latest video continues their ongoing collaboration with Frank Lebon
Mount Kimbie have released their latest video directed by Frank Lebon and Rosie Marks for You Look Certain (I’m Not So Sure), from the Warp duo’s 2017 record, Love What Survives.
Cutting between shots of crowds of people enjoying themselves in groups and couples or on their own is a poster displaying the portrait of a very confused person who seemingly looks out of place; later locals place the stranger’s face over theirs as a mask. Filmed in Miami the short is “about the insecurities one feels in a new place,” the pair explain, shown through a fast-paced edit.
The video continues an ongoing string of themes for videos taken from the album, displaying different stories and interpretations of love. Each has either been directed or commissioned by Frank Lebon and usually star himself or his brother, Tyrone Lebon.
The first, We Go Home Together directed by Frank, shows a passionate late night tale followed by Marilyn, a found footage video starring Frank and his brother Tyrone, directed by their photographer father Mark Lebon, displaying the “unbreakable bond between father and son”. The third, Delta also saw Frank behind the lens, portraying “a twisted love story of a couple caught up in a bank robbery”. The fourth and fifth videos saw different directors show their interpretations of love with Raf Fellner and Tegen Williams portraying the last Native American Indian Ishi Blue Train Lines, and finally Four Years and One Day “the story of a family ageing and leaving London,” directed by Duncan Loudon.
