Harley Weir shoots Rihanna for Dazed
Photographer Harley Weir has lensed Rihanna for the new issue of Dazed. It is Rihanna’s first Dazed cover and, in fitting with the singer’s stratospheric fame, there are four separate covers, each featuring the singer.
The issue’s Nocturnal Activities theme is reflected in the dark tone of the four images. The first image is a full body portrait of Rihanna decked out in a black PVC puffa and patent boots backgrounded by a shrub.
The other three covers feature close crops of Rihanna’s face lit gently in cool blue and sensual red, while the fourth image is differentiated with yellow eyeshadow and a pillow. Each of the four covers was styled by Robbie Spencer, Dazed’s creative director.
Dazed says the cover images were created in close collaboration between Rihanna and Harley, “the photographer whose lens lightly grazes the skin of her subjects – further proof, if we needed it, of Rihanna’s absolute ownership of her sexuality and willingness to experiment creatively.”
The Nocturnal Activities issue comes in time for winter 2017. The issue will be released globally for sale this Thursday 23 November.
