Elle magazine releases fully embroidered cover as part of redesign
Elle has released a fully embroidered cover for its September issue as part of the magazine’s redesign. Created by Claire Barrett, founder of London-based embroidery company Hawthorne & Heaney, the magazine cover is a minimal ivory-white fabric with stitched logo. The artwork is simply a sewn-on patch, similar to a clothing label, stating “Now what?” in embroidered capitalised type alongside the bar code.
The cover is one of five for the September issue with the theme Rise of the Rebel, released to celebrate the magazine’s relaunch. The other four covers feature more traditional fashion photography, starring Kristen Stewart, Zayn Malik, Amanda Stenberg and Hari Nef. This is a “concept” cover which Elle says “takes us back to a blank canvas… so we can ask the question now what?”
