Britney Spears' painting auctioned for $10,000 to Robin Leach

Plenty of the world’s best known musicians came out of art school, but in a unique turn of events it seems Britney Spears has used global pop stardom as a way-in to an artistic career. In mid-October Britney posted a highly memorable video on Instagram, showing the singer at an easel, painting a colourful diptych in classical architectural environs while Mozart played in the background.

She then donated half of the set, depicting purple flowers, to be auctioned at Vegas Cares, a benefit concert for the first responders and victims of the Las Vegas shooting on 1 October. Britney has a long-standing and successful concert residency in the Nevada city.

British journalist and TV host Robin Leach, who resides in Las Vegas, was tasked with leading the auction of the artwork, and eventually bought the piece himself for $10,000. The second half of the diptych has yet to surface.
