To celebrate British Vogue’s centenary, an exhibition at the National Portrait Gallery will take place in February 2016. A collision of fashion and portraiture, Vogue 100: A Century of Style will showcase photography commissioned by British Vogue since it was founded in 1916.
The show has been three years in the making, beginning with the search for original prints, of which 280 will feature from the Condé Nast archive and international collections. Working in reverse chronology the exhibition will start with what’s happening with Vogue now, then travel back in time through the decades.
It’s not just photography that will feature, as the art direction and graphic design of Vogue will be also be honoured with a vitrine of 100 issues of Vogue displaying covers and page layouts. With images from some of the industry’s biggest names including Peter Lindbergh, Corinne Day and Helmut Newton, it’s set to be a true celebration of British Vogue’s biggest hits.
Vogue 100: A Century of Style will run at the National Portrait Gallery from 11 February – 22 May 2016.
