The Boobs: Art for Breast Cancer project brings together hundreds of brilliant creatives from around the world to raise money and awareness for breast cancer charities. First and foremost, it’s a book being crowdfunded on Kickstarter by new non-profit art book imprint HappyLuja, featuring original work by 80 international artists. Beyond the brilliantly simple pink front cover lies page after page of vibrant artwork by artists from Genie Espinosa to Sebastian Curi, Catalina Vásquez and Yeye Weller, each designed in “honour and praise of all women”.

To promote the book is a short animated film, another equally astounding congregation of creatives – this time entirely female – brought together by Nexus Studios in collaboration with female artist community She Drew That. Directed by Hannah Lau-Walker, the film was made by a team of 14 female animators, using artwork by 14 female artists featured in the book, and exec produced by Julia Parfitt with an all-female production team at Nexus, with a soundtrack by composers Neighbourhood Jukebox at Sister Music.

The Boobs film starts by welcoming us to the Boobiverse, with an interplanetary vista made up of breast-shaped planets leading to a rocket landing face-first in between two boobie-shaped mountains. From there ensues a joyous romp through short vignettes playfully using boob imagery in cityscapes, nature scenes, underwater landscapes and plenty more, each artist given free rein to depict their unique interpretation of what boobs symbolise.

Nexus says in a statement that the project aims to catch the attention of women of all ages and backgrounds, using humour to encourage women to recognise the importance of breast health. Around 600,000 people die every year from breast cancer.

Boobs: Art for Breast Cancer is currently running a Kickstarter campaign which you can support here, aiming to publish the book in March 2021.
