It’s Nice That and Google Design invite you to SPAN 2017. SPAN explores the ways in which design and technology shape our everyday lives. This year, SPAN is featuring the work of makers and thinkers in Pittsburgh, Newcastle-Gateshead, and Mexico City – cities where art and industry intersect in new and intriguing ways. For SPAN NCL, Google Design and It’s Nice That are teaming up to bring together some of the UK’s best and brightest creatives for a workshop and evening presentations.
Join us at 7pm on October 5 for talks from local artists and designers including Jimmy Turrell, Ed Carter, Charlotte Gregory and Adam Finlay —along with representatives from Google and It’s Nice That. The evening event will be held at BALTIC Centre for Contemporary Art, Gateshead. Stay tuned to #SPAN17 for more details on the lineup and registration.
Prior to the evening event, we’ll be hosting an invite-only workshop led by local collaborators and exploring the North East’s long-standing association with progressive design and new technologies. 30 invited attendees from around the Newcastle-Gateshead metropolitan area will use data sets and visualisation methods to explore local air quality. These visualizations will be displayed at the evening event.
If you just can’t wait to dive into SPAN, there’s good news: SPAN Pittsburgh will be livestreamed on September 14 and 15. Download the Livestream Viewing Kit for details.
SPAN Newcastle Gateshead will take place at BALTIC Centre for Contemporary Art, 5 October. The event will kick off at 7pm, with drinks to follow the talks.
