Tillmans’ vast body of photographic work has many unique voices, and it’s the minimal abstraction employed in pieces such as the otherworldy Urgency XXII, and use of colour in Silver Instillation VII that particularly make me feel all nice and weird. It’s only when you surround yourself with these works in the flesh (some of them covering complete walls) that you really get a sense of their power. His show at The Serpentine Gallery last year was incredible. The Rothko Room at Tate Modern has a similar effect.
