Features and miscellany - it's our weekend supplement The Weekender
Back in the glory days (i.e. when we were at uni) each triumphant essay hand-in or project completion was followed by a quick dance around our bedrooms, a trip to Tesco’s to stock up on cheap booze and, if we were really lucky, an evening spent in fancy dress in a sweaty club stuffed fuller than a new beanbag. Now we’re working 9 till 5, that jubilant sensation is saved up for just one day of the week and, you guessed it, it’s Friday! So do a swift wiggle in your deskchair, because it’s time for the Weekender!
– This week the cultural figure to reveal the content of their Bookshelf to us was artist Miriam Elia, and she did so with delight and a couple of well-thumbed paperbacks.
– The glorious new issue of Wonderland is all about Mean Girls, the epic teen film of dreams currently celebrating its tenth birthday, so the guys over at Wonderland have made us a Mean Girls-themed mix to celebrate. Unsurprisingly, it’s sheer bliss.
– This week on the podcast we discuss Alex Chinneck’s levitating house, the Turner Prise, and selfies. Clap your ears around it "here.”:http://www.itsnicethat.com/articles/studio-audience-5-37

This week our amazing freelance web developer Nick O’Reardon introduced us to Where’s the Pixel, an oddly entertaining game which literally asks you to locate a tiny black pixel on a glaring white screen. Don’t question it. Just click.

I’m going to let you into a secret; I haven’t actually seen that many Hitchcock movies. But I’ve seen enough and, to be honest, you probably don’t need to have seen any to find this trippy montage amusing.
Behind some of the most interesting journalism are hours and hours of laborious and painful research. Some poor sod over at Delayed Gratification has trawled through the UK government’s e-petitions site where people can post motions to be considered at the House of Commons. Unsurprisingly, these suggestions don’t all get through and most of them are probably very, very boring, but this selection are comedy gold.

This is a mix themed around the blustery, ochre feeling of the best season of the year… Autumn! Put together by Charlie Thorne, this mixtape is everything you need to burst out of summer into the cool pantry of winter. Medieval folk music mashed together with Panda Bear and rare 1960s gun wielding guitarists isn’t a recipe that sounds too tasty, but it just totally is. Everyone should listen to this mix.

Picture the scene: you’re Steve Jobs. You want to put across how exciting WIFI is to an audience of digital enthusiasts/mega nerds. There’s only one thing for it really; bring out the hula hoop. This is how to whip a crowd up into a frenzy (the hula hoop appears at around 01:18 if you’re pushed for time btw).
