Superb identity for arts studio Vest by Danish agency Ineo Designlab
When graphic designers discuss working for arts clients, more often than not they tell us about how important it is that an identity or series of exhibition graphics can sit back, being confident enough to let the artwork speak for itself. The real skill lies in doing this while also managing to devise a look that’s instantly recognisable. It’s even better if said look is, in its own way, as beautiful as the artworks it’ll be used to help promote.
Danish agency Ineo Designlab’s work for art studio Vest manages to be just that. The clever little marque plays with the idea of the “established” stamp, separating the studio’s “v” from its “est” to create a feel that’s both lively and authentic. This idea of playing with type is carried through to the printed materials for Vest, with exhibition posters that jumble words into legible, bold yet quietly experimental typographic treatments. There’s a lovely juxtaposition of the ruggedness of the stamp of the logo and the neat, formal feel that underpins the identity, formed of a limited colour palette of delicious Yves Klein-esque blue, pale taupe and white.
