Thomas Slater's very funny comic shows us what real mischief is
We love Thomas Slater. We love how he manages to dollop a fat helping of fun to subjects from art school to financial advice, how he so accurately distils the defining characteristics of his subjects in one fell swoop, and how his work offers a universal joy which makes him appealing for near on every audience imaginable.
The Imp of the Perverse is a comic which details in no uncertain terms exactly what’s so great about Thomas. The riso-printed comic follows an unfortunate moustachioed man as he attempts to resist the urge to put a perverse spin on his day to day activities. His willpower falters, happily for us, as “blogging” turns into an experiment to see how many objects he can superglue on top of one another, a trip to the library becomes a farting competition and toll booth barriers cease to be a stopping device. It’s everything a comic should be; cheeky, funny and skilfully created. If this doesn’t rumble up a smirk from the depth of your belly then you’re clearly not cut out for Mondays.
