For artist Tae Lee, painting is an important means of exploring the self. Even on what they describe as the “low stakes space of a single canvas”, they use creativity as “an opportunity to become aware of myself and ego, so I can process emotions through expansion and expression”. Moreover, Tae sees his peaceful work – full of natural imagery, rich colours bleeding into one another and mythological-like figures – as a means of giving back, and creating mutual healing. “I offer up my humble artistic practice as a piece of kindling for the people living in our times of environmental calamity, civil injustice and yearning for global equanimity.”

Rather than finding inspiration in one specific place, Tae sources influences from everything that surrounds them. And when perusing social media, Tae most enjoys seeing the vast, varied beauty of work on show. “The kaleidoscope of colours, shapes, movement and poetry that we all partake in bringing to this world is indescribable through words,” he ends. “I feel inspiration from it all.”
