The jaw of a fox cast in gold, the wing of a pigeon on a hair pin – Reid Peppard has managed to convince me that roadkill can make rather beautiful jewellery and controversial costume pieces. Taxidermy and fashion seems like an unlikely combination, but as Polly Walker convinced us with her memento mori artworks, Peppard is among a score of jewellery designers imaginatively transforming dead animals into arresting accessories. And as the New York Times says: “It casts a whole new light on the term killer accessory.”
