Photographer Rebecca Storm's portfolio of idiosyncratic and instinctive still lifes
The portfolio of Montreal-based photographer Rebecca Storm is consistently refreshing. A mix of idiosyncratic work, Rebecca’s instinctive eye turns the trends of still life photography on its head.
Rebecca’s photographs are cleverly conflicting with their mix of colours and textures, silky rippled backdrops contrasted against bold objects. The velvety rich hues in the photographer’s work are influenced by synaesthesia, explaining the flow of colour contrasts that play a key role in her work. She describes her juxtaposition of items as an “exploration of social ‘norms’ and the objectification of prosaic objects”. However Rebecca’s intelligence doesn’t confuse her work. Each shot is approachable, it allows the viewer to question what still life should represent but allows the work to communicate.
Rebecca’s work can be regularly seen on Editorial Magazine where she is the in-house photographer as well as assistant editor. Admiration of the photographer’s work can also be seen across Vice worldwide, Dazed and Art Baby. As Rebecca’s portfolio grows in style and content we expect further praise for her intelligent arrangements and photographs.
