Folded posters by Philipp Möckli advertise a show about the art of making
“An exhibition about the making of an exhibition itself is kind of meta. So I wanted to do the same with the poster,” says Philipp Möckli. “I did that by showing the process of placarding very literally. The medium of the poster becomes the subject of itself.” The series of six posters and one flyer were developed with the curator Alexandra Schüssler to explored the exhibition concept for Musée Libidinal that challenged the nature of making and curation.
Philipp’s simple design uses hands as a symbol for making and each poster is folded differently to provide variation along the theme, creating a sequence which sees the work break free of the hoarding frames on which they were displayed. “The installation took quite some time because it needed to be done very carefully,” recalls Philipp. “After pre-folding, each poster had to be pasted and then folded again, while it was still wet. The overlaps needed some extra adhesive, because the paper would have started to curl after a few weeks under the weather.”
