The compositional eye of photographer Petr Pawlowski
Petr Pawlowski is a photographer with a compositional eye curated into a calm and collected portfolio. Originally born in Prague the photographer studied at Parsons in New York, graduating with a BFA.
Across Petr’s portfolio is a collection of cultural references; still lifes scattered with objects, a high flash and collaged elements used to elevate them, and terrifically focused portraiture photography. In one instance he uses natural light to reveal the hidden magnificence of a shrub on the side of the road. Petr’s photographs take simple objects, ones we use or ignore everyvday, and transform them into elegant artworks.
Looking towards the future Petr hopes to disband his current practice of photographic publications and find a new habitat for his photographs to live. “I used to focus primarily on photo books, so I have seen way to many photo books in recent years, Now, I get nauseous when I walk into Printed Matter,” Petr tells It’s Nice That. "And my plans for the future are purely fictional. I would like to get a documentary assignment, so I can travel on someone else’s budget. I would love to sail a boat too. I am also looking for another medium I can work with.” Which all sound like ideal plans for a photographer rich with potential.
