It’s funny, it’s sad, it’s dark, it’s surburban, it’s about the underdog. These are all reasons why Muriel’s Wedding is my favourite film and why for me, it works on so many levels. It’s clever beyond being a straightforward comedy. I love that it is so understated and that it’s the characters and dialogue that drive the story. There are also a lot of issues under the surface of the film which make it much more complex. And it’s got some fantastic one-liners….“You can’t stop progress!”
