Now I’m not in any kind of musical ensemble and I don’t intend to make a music video anytime soon, but if I did, Mimi Cave is undoubtedly the woman I’d go to. She’s a pro in all things light-dappled and sweetly haunting, and she’s been involved with so many excellent audio-visual offerings of late that it would be criminal of us not to acknowledge her brilliant work.
Her new video Paris for Magic Man is a sweet ode to towering forests, symmetrical gymnastics and dance routines so perfectly synched to the melancholy bounce of the song’s rhythm that they almost seem to be intrinsically interwoven with the notes. And in keeping with the song, the longer you watch, the weirder it gets; bodies lose their heads, girls lose their waists, and legs and torsos become entirely separate in a wonderful demonstration of what VFX can do when put in the right hands. It’s an ace music video, and it’s one of many – head over to her Little Cave of Wonders to see all that she has to offer.
