Still and not so still lives in the work of photographer Matthew Tammaro

Date
19 October 2015

Toronto-born photographer Matthew Tammaro’s beautifully lit, well choreographed work achieves the difficult balance of skill and humour in his portraiture, editorial and personal work. Dusky, foggy landscapes, beautiful people and the dog days of summer sit amongst more traditional portraiture and still life photography. Matthew describes the process of shooting flowers as “a change of pace from photographing people, and a process a lot more similar to painting, which had been [his] main focus before taking up photography in earnest.” His diverse portfolio picks up on off-kilter moments and expressions, capturing the people and places of his, and the wider world.

Matthew moved from Los Angeles to New York last year, seeking a shift in lifestyle that fell into place with a bright, shared studio and portraiture commissions from Bloomberg Pursuits, The Fader, Le Monde and The Wire, as well as fashion editorials and his personal practice.
