KesselsKramer scoff at the upcoming royal wedding with a series of satirical souvenirs

KesselsKramer has created a monarchy-focused farce in light of the upcoming royal wedding in May. Poking fun at the extravaganza in a medium the royals would want us to commemorate the event themselves, KesselsKramer are offering you the chance to bag alternative memorabilia in the form of plates and a football scarf.

Back when Kate and Wills got hitched and gave all us Brits the day off in 2011, KesselsKramer created a series of plates in response to the “wave of cash-in tat” merchandise which was popping up globally to commemorate the event. Now, the communications agency has returned to using the royals as muses, with a new series that scoffs at the imminent wedding of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle.

Titled Making the Royals Great Again, the project features 19 unique satirical souvenir plates, photographed by Marloes Haarmans, taking “different themes bolstered by strong design,” it explains. “Royal crockery to raise a smile, poke fun at the happy couple, facepalm the decision to hold the wedding on FA Cup Final Day and celebrate a Brexit-free day.”

Playing upon the whirlwind romance of Meghan and Harry, certain plates allude to the pair meeting via blind date, including mock lonely hearts columns reading “Minor Royal seeking commoner from another land”. Others allude to newspaper coverage of the event, which will undoubtedly build up to breaking point over the next month, mimicking a Daily Mail cover shouting “Actress Marries Brit”. More plates in the collection comment on the actual event itself, such as a film review style design stating “Boring plot with a few moving moments,” or poking fun at the possible Anglo/American wedding menu being “Sautéd swan with a blue blood jus served with hot dogs, and a side of Kraft mac and cheese”.

The fact that the royal wedding and the FA cup final will be held on the same day on 19 May is also referenced, with a Windsor v Wembley plate and one joking “wish I’d watched the FA cup”. As well as the 19 plates, KesselsKramer has also made a custom ‘Half-and-half scarf’ for 19 May. Mimicking the lettering of classic football scarfs, it allows you “to avoid the dreaded outfit change and head straight from Wembley to Windsor,” says KesselsKramerr. “Tipped to be this season’s ‘must have’ this is the only accessory you’ll find which says ‘Yes, I may be a member of a football factory but I also love weddings’.

However our particular favourite is one plate featuring an imagined WhatsApp conversation among the royal family when Harry broke the news: “Guys, me and meg are getting hitched!” Picking up on Prince (or as known to Harry, Grandad) Philip’s infamous controversial quotes, the conversation ends with Grandad Philip saying, “Well you know where I stand…” followed by No Entry sign emojis, and him consequently leaving the family WhatsApp group.
