For a while now designer, art director and author James Victore has been answering questions about life, love and work on Youtube, Burning Questions. Answering questions sent in by viewers he talks candidly about everything and anything, from the mundane to the conceptual, which makes for great viewing.
In the latest episode, James turns the camera on his friend and fellow artist Steve Powers AKA ESPO. On a chance meeting in Miami while Steve is working on a large-scale mural, James asks Steve about his process, whether he’s intimidated by a blank space and his “tools of the trade.” There’s the continual chug of an engine in the background of the video but get past the noise and it’s an entertaining insight into how Steve works as an artist. With nuggets of wisdom including “money’s cheap, time’s expensive” and “all you gotta do with a blank wall is write something”, it’s fantastic to see two big names talking so openly and informally.
