If you have been to India you will know that it is an assault on the senses – the overwhelming smell, the loud noise and the visual overload-overload. Hand painted signs, shop front banners, trucks and taxis are everywhere. A kind of full-on, cultural mash-up that somehow works. These signwriters are skilled craftsmen, but as India rapidly develops they are dying out. The two projects: Handpainted Type and Typocity are trying to preserve this unique style of graphic design. Good luck to them.
