Los Angeles-based Idan Barazani is a photographer in complete control of his craft. Slightly uncanny, and at times macabre, the Jerusalem-born photographer has a portfolio that is full of mystery. “I’m constantly experimenting with new techniques and pushing the boundaries of what's possible,” Idan tells us. Having cut his teeth in the highly competitive world of photography and directing at a young age, Idan has built up an impressive client list during his time in New York, taking on diverse projects that have allowed him to explore different aspects of his craft.
In general, Idan’s work is heavily influenced by “Japanese animation and classic American and European cinema from the 80s and 90s”, he says. With all of his work, Idan is looking for ways to create a unique, eye-catching image that will stand out from the crowd. On the use of his trademark fish eye and distorted angles, Idan says he’s “developed the ability to create exaggerated drama out of every situation”.
As Idan himself puts it, “music is [his] primary creative influence”. He draws inspiration from a wide range of musical genres, and often associates each image he creates with a specific song. That’s perhaps why his images feel so immersive – each one carefully constructed to be as emotional as it is suspenseful.
