Going Down Swinging, the publication visually representing literature

Date
21 September 2016

Going Down Swinging works across platforms to promote and produce a high quality publication that supports artists and writers. As a digital, print and audio anthology of creativity since 1979 they have become one of Australia’s “longest-running and most respected literary journals”, creating a platform for “writers and artists telling stories worth sharing”.

The publication is most regularly updated online including opinion pieces, longer features with proven writers and discussions on modern literature. However for their most recent printed anthology, issue 37 in the collection, collates together the best of the best from new and established works of forty divergent writers.

Going Down Swinging is realised visually by editorial designer and art director Matt Tambellini who’s use of swish slab serif typography represents the publication’s forward thinking approach to literature. It is exciting to see editorial work being correctly recognised as a creative skill alongside other visual disciplines. With Going Down Swinging’s complete open platform for submissions and as a publication that pays all of its contributors, we’re excited to see how it continues its legacy.
