Frances Stark is a Los Angeles-based artist primarily known for her wonderful collages and works on paper. My Best Thing is her first feature-length film: a 90-minute conversation between two online avatars on a dating website, which is funny, weird and kind of heartbreaking too. I first saw it in Venice this summer, where it was tucked away in an outhouse at the back of the Arsenale as part of the Bice Curiger-curated exhibition ILLUMInations. My Best Thing was a total highlight of the Biennale and, if you missed it first time around, the ICA in London is showing it over the next month.
