Dana Schutz

I’m stuck on the grotesque image of Dana Schutz’s drawing, Eyelashes. It’s a portrait of a woman (?) trimming her eyelashes while talking on the phone, her tongue stuck out, eyes wide, concentrating, one eyelash cropped to the lid, eyebrows already plucked. Guessing that Schutz prefers jeans and sneakers maybe she feels tension primping for the art world. It’s not natural and it’s very funny.
