Get lost in the apocalyptic and nostalgic collages of Beth Hoeckel
Making collages out of old photographs from collectible magazines such as Bunty and some of the older issues of Life is almost a no-brainer — many nice pictures stuck together equalling one, big picture? Yes please. It takes a real collage expert to do this and evoke specific, perhaps unexpected emotions, and Beth Hoeckel has done just that. In her series Point of View, Hoeckel depicts men, women and children all peering at something far in the distance, something just around the corner. Armed with the God-like power that a collage-maker is blessed with, Beth makes sure her characters are staring dreamy-eyed into some sort of seagull-strewn purgatory or total eclipse of the universe. Top tip: You can spend your hard-earned cash wisely on Beth’s collages at her shop.
