Onto a weiner! Alistair Philip Wiper's hot dog factory photography
In the words of photographer Alastair Philip Wiper, “Among all the magical things in life—your first love, snow on Christmas Eve, the Chicago Cubs—no wonder is greater than the Danish hotdog.” For this recent series Alastair visited the Gøl factory in Svenstrup, Denmark, where they have been making superb sausages since 1934.
The series was commissioned by the Danish office of Vice’s delectable site Munchies. The images take the viewer on a trip through every step of hot dog making, “from the cuts of meat being ground to a pulp, mixed with herbs and smoked over beechwood in one of Europe’s largest smokers.”
Alastair is a photographer recognised for his photographs based in a wide range of factories, from the Playmobil factory in Malta to the largest vinyl pressing plant in the Netherlands. This series encompasses Alastair’s process wholeheartedly, it displays an alternative insight into the food we eat, depicting futuristic machines whilst hinting at the personalities that work there. Overall, Alistair’s work and this series in particular, is a personable insight into the products we often take for granted.
