Three years ago my father sent me a book about english painter Edward Burra, whom previously I’d been unaware of. A sardonic and notoriously difficult character, Burra famously declined an offer to become an associate of the Royal Academy. His paintings, predominantly in watercolours have a vivacity to them that really excites me.
