Font of Life: a typeface-led fundraising campaign for World Water Day by Azul Recreo
Azul Recreo: Font of Life
Madrid-based design studio Azul Recreo has released a font for World Water Day, which can be downloaded in exchange for a donation to non-profit organisation Ongawa. The Font of Life campaign will give 100% of the proceeds to building safe water fountains in countries with a lack of water purification and sanitation.
The modular typeface draws from a “geometric representation of the movement of water,” says the Spanish studio’s co-founder Mateo Buitrago. A regimented wave pattern was used as a basis for the letter forms, which comprise sections of elongated rounded cuboid shapes. The face comes in two styles, stencil and block.
Today 1.8 billion people have no access to safe water, and 80% of global disease is linked to water and sanitisation issues, making it the leading cause of death in the world.
