Artists design tarot cards to represent the uncertain future of 2017
What Does Our Future Hold? an exhibition curated by Polyester Zine, The Coven Collective and Isobella Popadec is to open for one night only at Dye House 451, London, on 7 January. The exhibition’s collective curators have invited over 50 artists to contribute to the event, featuring a range of illustrators and photographers including Maisie Cousins, Elle Hardwick, Nina Goodyer and Brie Moreno.
The exhibition is instigated by the uncertain future of 2017 due to the “political turmoil” of 2016, say its curators. In this time of unpredictability the exhibition evaluates how “many people have turned to astrology and the world of tarot to seek comfort and reassurance in trying times,” they explain. “However, with the rise in popularity of tarot comes one glaring issue; the lack of diversity within the deck.”
As a result, the exhibition showcases artists’ own interpretations of traditional tarot cards, aiming to “explore tarot as a medium for comfort among our peer group and directly address diversity issues by creating our own alternative, feminist, intersectional tarot deck”.
The exhibition will be take place from 6pm and a limited edition risograph printed tarot deck will be available to purchase on the night, as well as the opportunity to have your own tarot read.
