Kicking off the festive season four months early, six leading artists including Grayson Perry, Adam Dant and Bob and Roberta Smith have designed Christmas cards for Oxfam. Raqib Shaw, Michael Craig-Martin and Peter Saville have also donated artworks for the range.
Grayson Perry, whose card is titled Inoffensive Design, says he agreed to design a card “because Oxfam is like another word for good”.
Adam Dant’s design, called Lucky You, was inspired by a tongue-in-cheek quip Adam heard one Christmas “as part of the general fruity festive banter beloved of those who love to give and those who love to receive”.
Bob and Roberta’s card shouts “It’s that time of year again,” in the artist’s characteristically energetic typographic style. Peter Saville and Joy Division donated the iconic Unknown Pleasures album artwork for Oxfam’s use, which will be printed in gold foil on black.
The collection was curated and art directed by London agency Kit Grover, which selected and briefed the individual artists.
Oxfam plans to auction the original works by Grayson, Bob & Roberta and Adam Dant to raise further funds.
The cards go on sale on 17 October.
