Post-Brexit forums for the creative industries to be held nationwide
In a call to action, the chairman of the Creative Industries Federation Sir John Sorrell has announced a series of events and talks to address and coordinate the creatives industries’ response to the UK’s exit from the European Union.
The series of events will consider the ramifications of the exit from the common market on the creative industries, which are said to collectively employ more the 5 million people both permanently and freelance across the country.
Sorrell, founder and chairman of the group, explains: “We need to make sure that the issues that our members raised during the referendum campaign are understood and represented by those negotiating the new future for Britain. These include access to markets, access to regional and sector-specific funding, strong IP protection and freedom of movement of talent.”
The first of these practical forums for discussion will be held in London on 7 July, with more to follow across the UK throughout the summer months until September ahead of the expected formation of the new government. Interest for attendance and participation can be registered via their website.
Established in 2014, the Creative Industries Federation counts more than 200 major media and creative companies, brands and universities among its supporters, and is most famous for lobbying to prevent further cuts to the BBC and secure funding for the creative industries ahead of last autumn’s government white paper.
