Put on your finery, load up on business cards and get down to The Conran Shop in west London, where It’s Nice That have taken over the windows for Private View – an installation that celebrates the weird and wonderful world of exhibition openings.
Rather than a one-night spectacular, It’s Nice That and The Conran Shop will run a month-long event in the windows of the store and everyone is invited. Traditionally, a private view is an occasion when gallery walls are at their brightest, the prosecco is chilled, the press releases are neatly stacked and the products and artwork are polished for their moment in the spotlight. But at The Conran Shop this September something has gone awry…
Come and decipher the aftermath of an evening that started as a glittering occasion and took a lurch towards the unexpected – a playful installation combining products, set design, storytelling and chaos that questions what a memorable event really might be.
It’s Nice That and The Conran Shop have worked with designers Arc Two, writer Michael Crowe and art fabricators Howling Hands to create an installation that will transform the windows of the Kensington store. The exhibition will be complimented with workshops led by Charlotte Mei that expand on the themes and offer a chance for visitors to create their own character or artwork to take away and display in their own gallery.
Of course, we will be hosting a party too – with guest DJs Sugarhouse Records, hours of pointless small talk and very important networking opportunities fuelled by canapés, drinks and catastrophe.
This is the second LDF in succession that It’s Nice That has partnered with The Conran Shop in Kensington during LDF following last year’s A Load of Jargon.
Private View runs from 16 September 2017 – 04 October 2017 at The Conran Shop, Michelin House, 81 Fulham Rd, London, SW3 6RD.
