Unit Editions to publish swanky Lance Wyman monograph
For such a renowned name in graphic design, it seems nuts that Lance Wyman hasn’t yet had a monograph devoted to showing his multifarious and magnificent works. Changing all that is Unit Editions, which is publishing a hefty new tome devoted to the career of the New York designer.
Lance is most recognised for his brilliant designs for the 1968 Mexico Olympics, frequently cited by less famous designers as not only their favourite Olympics designs, but their favourite identity work generally. As the new book shows though, there’s a lot more to Lance than those deliciously colourful patterns, and his long career has seen him work with the likes of General Motors, Minnesota Zoo and Jeddah International Airport. He continues to work today, and the book also showcases some of his more recent project alongside a comprehensive interview and essays by Adrian Shaughnessy, Andy Butler and Linda King. If you really love Lance and have a spare £150 knocking about, you can treat yourself to the special edition of 150 deluxe edition of the book, for which the designer has penned a personalised message and popped in a couple of screen-printed Mexico 68-style totem cards.
