The world’s largest Renoir collection is made accessible to all by filmmaker Phil Grabsky
Filmmaker Phil Grabsky brings the largest collection of Renoir works in the world to a global audience in his latest film. Documenting the fascinating life of the French art master, Renoir – revered and reviled sees The Barnes Foundation in Philadelphia, home of Albert Barnes’ extensive Renoir collection, explore the stylistic progression of the artist’s work and presents a range of perspectives on his heavily critiqued use of women as a recurring motif in his paintings.
Having founded Exhibition on screen back in 2011, Phil has brought exhibitions of work by artists such as Matisse, Rembrandt and Van Gogh to cinema audiences around the world. This new film sees Renoir’s works and cultural influence analysed in chronological comparison to his contemporaries and admirers such as Cézanne, Rousseau and Picasso, reaffirming his role in the impressionist movement.
