New York rent struggle action exhibition identity by Partner & Partners
Earlier this year, Partner & Partners created this powerful and lively exhibition identity for a show at Interference Archive, a space that seeks to collect and activate the cultural materials produced by social movements. Showcasing collective action by tenants for decent and affordable housing from the 1940s to today, the exhibition aimed to remind us of the continuing struggles for tenants in New York.
With a handmade aesthetic the We Won’t Move identity emulates the simple printed posters campaigners have used throughout the years. With bold, block lettering the emotive words shout loudly in red and are framed perfectly by a basic apartment building shape.
To go along with the posters the studio also created an exhibition catalogue. Included is a directory, glossary and resources for tenant organisers today. Many of Partner & Partners’ projects involve art, public spaces and activism and this passion and human-focus to their work is clear in this identity. Designing for beyond the exhibition, the studio feels their graphics and images “can and should be freely used and reproduced by present-day campaigns.”
