Photography: The whole of New York on their mobiles in Where Are You?
You know the universal myth that we’re addicted to technology and never seem to be able to put down our mobile phones? Not a myth. London photographer Joe Skilton has taken to the streets of New York to prove that we are, in fact, slaves to those beeping, buzzing digital consoles that distract us from almost every single aspect of our daily lives. Man on bus – on the phone. Woman on roof – on the phone. Policeman in park – on the phone. You get where this is going. The resulting works, Where Are You? present a strange image of a world where we’re constantly connected, not really paying attention to anything other than the voice on the end of the line.
