This short was sent my way recently and very much held my attention in it’s eerie excellence. Walter Hugo is the man doing the coating, exposing and fixing of silver nitrate onto glass plates to create a series of mercurial portraits. Each one captures as much of the metaphorical darkness as they do aesthetically pleasing contrast and in doing so, Hugo has recollected a studio technique from the 19th century to fine effect. The video goes some way in sharing a process which looks fascinating, not only because it uses a room-sized camera (cool).
